Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Had a really satisfying meal with authentic Nyonya flavors. The dishes were rich, fragrant, and perfectly balanced between spicy, sweet, and tangy. The ayam pongteh was tender and flavorful, and the assam fish was fresh with just the right kick. Portions were generous and beautifully presented. Service was friendly and attentive, making the whole dining experience even better. Definitely a great place to enjoy good Nyonya food — will come back again!"
"Great food and truly authentic Nyonya dishes! The Tau Eew Bak (dark soy sauce braised pork) was absolutely amazing! Rich, flavorful and cooked to perfection(very tender). I loved it so much! Service was great too, attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back again. Thank you!"
"This popular Nyonga Food Restaurant is well-known in Penang, there’s a time limit for each seating, which helps manage the large crowds that often flock here. Despite the restriction, it’s easy to see why the restaurant has built such a strong reputation. The menu is extensive, offering a wide variety of local specialties. Every dish I tried was packed with flavor and beautifully executed. The appetizer platter is a must-try; it’s thoughtfully curated and showcases some of the restaurant’s signature offerings. Among them, the otak-otak stood out — it has a distinct presentation and taste compared to the versions commonly found in Malaysia or Singapore, making it a memorable highlight. The acar fish is also excellent, perfectly balanced in flavor and texture."
"Made a reservation cause the shop doesn't have much seating. Food overall was ok. Not used to the Pongteh chicken taste as the main aroma was the star anise. Food not bad, ok to try if you are in the area. If you have never eaten Nyonya food from Melaka then you'll be fine with the taste of the food."
"Had a great meal at Rasa Sayang. Nasi ulam was a highlight - that blend of herbs is something else. But Nyonya Kari Bak Kut stole the show for me. Soft ribs, delish curry gravy... wow. Ayam Pongteh was good too. For dessert, I ordered Bobochacha. It was a very small bowl but packed full of Yum; worth the calories! Solid peranakan food."
"The food here was delightful and probably the best Nyonya food I’ve had in Penang! Firstly with service, although we had to wait awhile for our tables to clear, the manager was super friendly to us as he made sure we could sit down in comfort which was especially helpful for my grandma. The staff also came in to check on how we were going with our meal which was as nice. Now with the food, the lou sang was interesting as instead of using salmon, they use fish skin which gave a really nice and crunchy texture. I also enjoyed the lor bak and otak otak as they were full of flavour and cooked really nicely. The bang kuang char also reminded me of my grandma’s version of it as the turnip was incredibly sweet and flavourful. My favourite dish however was the pineapple pork lard which was honestly a dream come true as it melts in your mouth whilst having the sweet crunchiness to it. Overall, I absolutely adored the food here and I hope to be back here one day"
"Lovely nyonya cuisine. Friendly and helpful staff. Pleasant atmosphere. The Assam Pedas Stingray, Nyonya Kari Bak kut, Assam prawns, jiu hu char with sambal, kerabu petai, the black glutinous rice and bubur cha cha are so delicious and tasty and aromatic. Full of Peranakan flavours. My 91 years old nyonya descendant mother in law enjoy the foods so much. We received complimentary fish skin and tea and a tea set. Thank you Rasa Sayang Nyonya Cuisine. We will come back again for other dishes. Thank you for their helpful staff assistance in our needs."
"Authentic Nyonya flavours done right! Had a lovely meal at Rasa Sayang Nyonya Restaurant. The food was rich, comforting, and full of authentic Peranakan flavours. The Nyonya Kari Bak Kut was aromatic and well-balanced, while the Assam Pedas Grouper was tangy, spicy, and very fresh. Loved pairing everything with the blue pea fragrant rice — such a nice touch! The sambal kangkung was simple but perfectly done, and we even received a complimentary fish skin. Service was friendly and efficient, and the overall dining experience felt cozy and welcoming. Definitely a good spot if you’re craving proper Nyonya food in Penang. Will come back again"
